GRANTEE
SPOTLIGHT
“ I’ve always wanted to
know how to save up for
things I want, and this
program showed me
that I can start now. I don’t
want to wait until I’m
older to understand money.
I want to be ready.”
– Middle School Program Participant
YWCA Central Massachusetts
empowers women and girls through
programs designed to create
opportunities for independence and
self-sufficiency.
In 2024, YWCA Central Massachusetts received
a three-year $150,000 grant to fund the Girl’s CHOICE
Money Smart program teaching Worcester area
middle school girls essential financial literacy skills.
Financial education at a young age fosters lifelong
financial well-being, which can be particularly
transformative for girls of color, who often face unique
financial challenges.
YWCA’s interactive curriculum covers topics such as:
• Creating budgets and tracking expenses
• Developing saving strategies and setting achievable goals
• Exploring financial aid and scholarship opportunities
Early feedback indicates the Money Smart program is
having a big impact. One parent shared that their
daughter loves attending and has even taught her family
budgeting techniques learned from the program.
By building financial confidence and knowledge, YWCA
is helping young girls create brighter futures.
